Elizabeth Banks Will Be Tormenting The Power Rangers

Elizabeth Banks has just been casted as the nemesis Rita for the upcoming Power Rangers film coming in 2017.

Banks, who’s more widely known for her performance as Effie in the Hunger Games saga, will be playing the archenemies with the amazing costume.

For those of you not having a nostalgic panic attack and don’t know who Rita is, let me give you a lesson of “90’s TV Show 101.” The fictional character Rita Repulsa was the principal enemy for the five rangers throughout the shows first season. Rita was recognizable for her wicked laugh and elaborate headdress. She was the queen-bee of the space pirates obsessed with taking over the galaxy. When she sets her eyes on Earth, Zordon (who’s the messiah for the Power Rangers team) gathers five teenagers and recruits them to be the defenders of Earth. In each episode, the team of heroes would be constantly be attacked by Rita’s minions and evil allies.

It will be interesting to see what Banks brings to this role. She is best known for her comedic timing in The Lego Movie (2014) and hit TV show Modern Family. I feel like she will definitely be bringing some of that comic relief to the movie which is important to capture to stay true to essence of 90’s TV show.

Banks joins the cast of upcoming stars like Naomi Scott (The Martian) who will be playing the pink ranger and singer-songwriter Becky G. who will be playing the yellow ranger.

The film will be produced by Lionsgate Films which has also produced The Hunger Games series and The Expendables series.
